Maria Huntley is an artist who employs a wide range of expression. Maria was born in Germany and came to the United States as a child. Having lived many summers of her youth in Europe gave her an understanding of different cultural perspectives and informs the universal themes of her art. The textures, color and aesthetic of time worn places she has experienced as a world traveler is seen in the layers, structure and textures of her work. The range of her art creation includes assemblages, mixed media on canvas and paper, collage, photography and digitally altered art.
'Art is a form of meditation and play for me. While there may be some forethought that goes into my art making, I am open to the magic of surprise that happens as I work, feel, see and listen and as the combinations continue to speak to me and rearrange themselves according to that ongoing conversation and flow. I often wonder if I am speaking through the art or if the art is moving through me to make itself known. Constructing each piece keeps me in a state of transcendence and timelessness as I let go and allow the parts, shapes, textures, and colors...all the visual design elements to balance and to come into a unified whole. The art making process is a form of being present in order to manifest the many varied chapters of my life experience including the now into universal themes.' -Maria Huntley
'I received a Masters of Arts from the University of Illinois (Champaign/Urbana) provided through University Fellowships and working as a graduate assistant teaching art. My years as an art educator included working with students in preschool, elementary school, middle school, high school, college and the elderly in the United States and Taiwan. My professional and emotional growth as an artist/art educator has been and is enhanced and fostered through authentic interaction with people of all ages in the process of making art and in the opportunity to travel funded by art grants and stipends.
